You know, I used to have a blog, like, a million years ago when blogs first came out. And I kind of used it as a diary of sorts, just to vent and stuff. And then I fell off the bandwagon and got busy with school and everything.
And then I found Tumblr. I love my tumblr. I love the people on tumblr and all my followers and how much they interact with me and share bits of their life. And coming back to blogger is kind of hard.
I still have my tumblr but over here it's just... so lonely. How do you make friends on blogger? I just want to chat with people about make-up and hear about their lives, what's wrong with that.
Now I'm going to post a series of giving up faces.
:( blogger you make me sad.

Review: MAC Prep + Prime Beauty Balm
So my Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer ran out and that's been my go-to tinted moisturizer since I was actually 15. One time I tried a Stila one and it made me break out and I swore I would never betray Laura again.
But here I am, branching out. I decided to try out a BB cream to see if all the hype was worth it. BB = Beauty Balm for anyone who doesn't know. It was brought over after being wildly popular in Asia. It is the predecessor to CC cream which is Color Control if I'm not mistaken. To read more about their introduction into other parts of the world you can read this article. However, the purpose and function of these are different in the west than in the east. Here it's just a moisturizing slightly more glamorous version of a tinted moisturizer, there it actually whitens the skin.
The one I decided on was MAC BB Tinted Foundation Cream. For some reason, the workers at MAC always seem to have a really hard time matching me with their foundations, nothing is ever light enough, but luckily the BB creams go pretty light. The shade I purchased was "Extra Light"(go figure)
I love how my skin feels when I'm wearing it. I bought it at the MAC store and it was $30.00. They only have three shades, "Extra Light," "Light," and "Light Plus," so if you have dark skin at all, I don't think this would be the product for you.
As far as coverage goes, this is quite sheer, so if you want to hide any really intense blemishes or pigmented areas, I'm not sure this is the product for you. It also doesn't create any kind of dewy/glowy effect. As my skin has (blessedly) been really clear the past few months, I have loved using this product.
My favorite things about it are: it feels light on my skin, you can't tell I'm wearing make-up, the smoothness of my skin after I put it on, and that it has 35 SPF (I'm all for skin protection).

Just some creepy close ups of my face so you can see how sheer it really is, and how you can't really tell that it's on the skin!
Would I buy it again? Probably. I want to try out some other products that have been on my list, though I don't know when I'll be needing to buy more because a little goes a long way with this product, which I always like. Ever tried it?

Review: Yves Saint Laurent Volume Effet "Faux Cils" Shocking Mascara
OK so basically I feel like I am on an eternal hunt for the perfect mascara. My eyelashes have always been light so I need a product to make them stand out. I also feel like, while I have length, I'm always looking for thickening. And it feels like no one ever really delivers all that I want.
I think this is the first time I've bought a second tube of the same mascara so I suppose that's a good sign!
This mascara is for sure on the pricier side. It's $30.00 (eep) and you can buy it online or in store at lots of places, including sephora. It comes in Black, Black Bronze, Burgundy, and Obscure.
I own Black Burgundy though it really is just like a soft black. I don't see any burgundy tones in it at all. I love how it collects on my eyes-- it always seems like it's great coverage for just one application. I only put two layers on at most. One downside is that I do see a bit of the fallout under my eye on occasion. I have to be careful not to rub my eye or annoy it in any way, otherwise you'll get a few dust speckles as you can see in this photo:
Overall, though, I LOVE how thick it makes my eyelashes, and I love the color selection. So far, still my favorite mascara. What kind do you love? Send me recommendations!

8 Common Make-Up Mistakes
I've been a lot of places in this world and I've seen and met a bunch of different people, and there isn't a country I've been to where I don't see women using cosmetics. Make-up for women, I find, is more than just looking attractive for another person; they have been using products to enhance their features for thousands of years. It has been document that Romans (x) and Egyptians (x) used natural elements in various mixtures to beautify themselves. It isn't just about enhancing our features-- sometimes we wear make-up to appear stronger, youthful, ethereal, or mysterious. It's been worn to battle, worn to hide our identities, and, of course, to appear alluring.
Sometimes, though, we get lost along the way, or we don't learn techniques correctly. This inevitably leads to the misuse of various items and creates big make-up faux pas. Here are the ones I've found most blaring among friends, co-workers, girls at clubs, elderly women, moms, and teenagers.
1. Not blending or matching foundation correctly
I've known lots of people who have this problem. They either choose foundation shades too dark or too light for their skin.

Another problem that goes hand in hand with this is when foundation isn't blended correctly. This leads to a kind of line along the jawline that makes the make-up incredibly obvious. Since day-to-day make-up is meant to enhance us while remaining natural, this is obviously not the right way to go about it.
Matching foundation can be difficult, especially if you're buying at a drugstore or somewhere where you can't sample the product. Keep in mind the undertones of your skin-- pink, red, yellow, blue, etc.-- and make sure you find a shade that compliments that. Since I'm a redhead I'm really pale, and I also have pinkish undertones to my skin, so I look for porcelain colors that are on the cool color side. I always go to a department store such as Nordstrom's or Neiman Marcus (Bloomingdale, Printemps, Selfridges, M&S, etc.) and play around with shades until I find one that works.
Also, to blend well, I use a foundation brush and go in circles around my face, to my jaw and a little under my chin, over eyes, across the upper part of my lips, etc. Take your time, and if you don't have any nice brushes, use your fingers (cleaned) and make sure you smooth it down as much as possible. Blend. Blend. Blend.
2. Too much blush
I always see this for some reason, and maybe it's the lighting people have in their rooms or something, or maybe they think it makes them look like a doll, I'm not sure. But this is a very common mistake.
When it comes to blush, I think less is more. One half of my face looks like I'm coming down with something sever! It's distracting and not in a good way. Look at it up close:
Imagine leaning in to kiss someone on the cheek and that's what you see! Yikes. I don't want that all over my lips.
Use a brush designed for blush such as this one, that I own, from Laura Mercier. You can get them slanted, for cream blush, for powder blush, etc. Use very gentle strokes. I start a little ways under my eye and gentle swoop over to my cheek bone. Then I use circular motions to gently increase the color until it looks like I'm natural flushed and blushing.
3. No blush and a very sick, waxy complexion
I knew this girl who never wore blush and her face always looked really sickly. Do you know what I mean? Your face becomes this kind of uniform color and with no blush or anything it just looks... waxy and strange. Like this, but imagine it was blended better:
This one is easy to avoid. Just use a little blush, make sure your foundation actually matches, or use bronzer to sculpt your face a bit (though that could still leave the color kind of monochrome so I'd suggest the blush).
4. Not knowing how to blend or apply eyeshadow
I've seen this lots, mostly from drunk girls or older women who don't have the patience to apply eyeshadow correctly. I find this very distracting on a person's face and I always find myself resisting the urge to reach up and close their eyes and blend it for them. Here's what always happens. You meet them and you're like, "Hi, it's great to see you again."
Everything seems normal for a little bit and then...
BAM they blink and you're like, "Oh my gosh what is going on here."
My advice: don't use that little applicator brush that comes with the eyeshadow. Your finger can do a better job blending than that little piece of styrofoam sponge weirdness. I use a series of different brushes to apply my eyeshadow, but the best one if you're trying to do a dramatic eye color is a blending brush like this one. Small circles, slowly blending outwards until you're pleased with the shape. Blending brushes are very forgiving and softening.
5. Not knowing how to apply liquid/ creme liner (smudges, mix-matched wings, etc.)
I know that liquid and cream liners are very difficult. I know this because I really only started implementing them into my beauty routine last year. I was really scared of them. And for good reason. It took me several goes before I didn't look straight up crazy.
Something I see a lot is smudged winged eyeliner. Which is a shame because when it's well applied, it looks so sophisticated and fresh. Smudging usually happens for one of three reasons: 1. The liquid or cream liner you used was cheap and doesn't set well. 2. You smudged it towards the end of the day/ you sweat and it smudges that way. 3. You slept in it and woke up thinking, "looks alright, I'll make it work for another day."
I couldn't even make this look as bad as I wanted to, but I think you know what I'm talking about. The edge gets all smudged and it starts looking like maybe you've been crying or drinking or something.
If the cause is one of the three I listed, I suggest 1. Get a better liner (I LOVE Bobbi Brown's cream one, and I hear Mark. is good as well) 2. Use some sort of setting spray/ smudge proof cream or primer 3. wash your face at night, really? It's so bad for your skin to not wash your face every night.
Matching both sides takes practice. I suggest waking up early and/ or trying it out at night multiple days in a row. I did it for like three weeks until I got the hang of it. Play around with the wings, try making them bold, different shapes, small, long, etc.
7. Lipstick on teeth
We have actually ALL been there. It's really common, I've seen basically everyone at some point or another dealing with this. And it's awful when someone is like, "OH HEY, *whisper* your teeth," and then rubs their front teeth.
And then it's like 0% of the world noticed your new lipstick or the fact that your teeth look so much whiter, and all they can talk about is that dumb smudge of lipstick ruining your night.
Guilty of any of these? I know there are lots more, but these are the most common, I find.
Sometimes, though, we get lost along the way, or we don't learn techniques correctly. This inevitably leads to the misuse of various items and creates big make-up faux pas. Here are the ones I've found most blaring among friends, co-workers, girls at clubs, elderly women, moms, and teenagers.

For some reason, this happened to me, I can't remember when, and this wizened old women came up to me and said, "The trick to never having lipstick on your teeth again is to put your thumb in your mouth, like a baby sucking a thumb, and then suck your lips in and pull your thumb out. That way, whatever lipstick was on the inner part of your lips is gone, and there is no more rubbing of lipstick on your teeth." Best advice ever given to me by a stranger (probably).
8. Putting on finishing powder too heavily
Really, most of these problems arise from too much of something. Powders that are created to either keep skin matte or to create a glow are wonderful tools at our disposal. However, lots of times I see women wandering around with really obvious powder residue on their faces.
Here, on one half of my face I have correct foundation and powder. On the other, I over-powdered. Honestly I think it makes me look more aged. Use a big brush head like this one, tap out all the excess powder, and apply with a light hand.
Anyway, I know that this post is long but I hope it makes you think about how you apply your make-up and why you apply your make-up as well. Oh, and here's a bonus mistake:
Tip: don't apply too much mascara and let it dry before you fully flick your eyes open.
Guilty of any of these? I know there are lots more, but these are the most common, I find.

Sandals for Summer!
Is it too early to start shopping around for sandals? Since the weather in Dallas doesn't feel like it's ever going to be cool again, I'm thinking its never too early.
I've been browsing stores as well as online sites and I've found a style of sandal I love (and have always loved let's be honest). It's the simple greek sandal. I think it is just so versatile and pairs well with maxi dresses, short dresses, jumpers/ rompers, linen shorts and oxford shirts, and on and on.... I could go on forever.
A & C= Ancient Greek Sandal, which can be found at their website here
B = Madewell Board Walk Sandal. I think they have such cute shoes, and these are so cute. I love red shoes (I get it from my mom) and I know that I put two red sandals on here, but they're cute. These sandals come in a bunch of different colors, too!
D= Joie de la Plage. I think they have such precious sandals, they have a few other options (including these with a black strap rather than a mint green one). I have been wanting these for a while now! Link here.
Now you can all go out and look at the cute summer clothes on our horizon. And maybe snatch up a few pairs of shoes before they all sell out!

Paris & Sephora Haul!
So this week I got a few things, two from Paris, and one from the Sephora here in Dallas. As it's a rainy day here, I thought I would take some photos in front of the beautiful rainy window!
The first item is the famous (maybe?) La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo. I've heard many things about this product so I'm very excited to start using it! I applied some this morning as a moisturizer of sorts and it's been working out really well. Though the tube does look small (it's 40 mL big), a little does go quite a long way, I would say a pearl sized amount or maybe a bit more should cover your face. I love the subtle clear glow it's given me so far. It's also made in France which I always appreciate. You can buy it in the US here.

The second is Bioderma's Crealine H2O. The bottle says that it's for dry skin and can be used as a make-up remover, cleaner, and is non-rinsing as well as hypoallergenic. I like all of those things, so I'm looking forward to seeing how well it removes make-up and if it makes me flair up or not (my skin has been sensitive these days). In the US you can buy it here.
The last item is Sephora's make-up brush weekly shampoo. I have really loved how my brushes have felt after using it so far. It says that it's use is once a week as a deep clean. It also is available in travel size. Sephora also carries a daily brush cleaner that is not as deep cleaning. Just like all the other items on here, a little goes a long way, so this will last a while. The price was decent as well, only $14.00 for the large size, and the travel size is $6.00! I think I'll buy the travel version of that to use while I'm on vacation. You can buy one like the one I have at any Sephora store or on their website. (Also, I'm not sure why the bottle looks different on their website, but its the same product!)
So far, I'm really liking all these products. I've only been using them for a day or so but I can't wait to see what results I'll get from the Crealine as well as the Effaclar products! Has anyone else gotten any products they've loved this week? What about these, have you used them before?

Review: Lipsticks I've been Loving this Winter
So, I was thinking about which of my lipsticks I've been really drawn to this winter season, so I decided to photograph four of my favorites that have been being used a lot more lately!
From the left: Mac Angel, Chanel Rouge Coco #40 (Charme), Chanel Rouge Coco #11 (Legende), and Nars Red Lizard.
Angel has been a favorite of mine for a while. The lighting in this photo isn't really good enough to do the color justice (I'm working at that whole lighting thing), but it's just a great 60's pink. I've been doing a lot of Bridget Bardot looks, and this lipstick is always the perfect companion, though not matte enough for the time period. (Lipstick in the 60's was just super matte!). The color is a great muted pink, and looks luscious in the summertime as well.
This Chanel color has been my go-to for every day. It's just so light and refreshing and perfect for lunch dates and shopping trips. Not too strong a color to be worried about smudging and upkeep, but definitely just such a gorgeous, classic pink.
Légende is a wonderful shade. It's a wonderful rich deep pink and looks so gorgeous with light and dark brown eyeshadows. Versatile, easily transitions from day to night with a little additional drama to the eye. Wonderful shade, one of my favorites. Chanel just makes such gorgeous lipsticks.
The smudges in the corners of my lips are driving me CRAZY but aside from this, this color is kind of a wildcard for me. I have deep red hair so red lipsticks are usually intimidating but this color is just SO RED! It's wonderful for the winter when our skin is so much lighter, it just stands out like paint on a canvas, it's gorgeous. I do a very simple eye, maybe just a little champagne or white eyeshadow, simple black gel eyeliner and mascara.
What lipsticks have y'all been using? Comment and let me know!

Once Upon a Time...
I was cool and I was traveling a bunch. And now I'm not in school (kind of) and don't have an excuse to trek around Europe. I wish I knew what I truly loved doing and how to find a career that encompasses that.
This picture was taken in Greece in December 2008 for anyone wondering.

Popsicle Lips??
Once upon a time I found a gorgeous photo of Ashley Olsen on the internet. I became obsessed with her lipstick (actually, the whole look in general, but her lipstick is phenom). I thought the color looked so cool and effortless, like she had just been eating a popsicle and then had her picture taken. I decided I wanted to try and make a similar look.
Yes, that is my own drawing just as a visual reference.
I took my Red Lizard by Nars lipstick (link will take you to Amazon) and applied it to just the inside of my lips. You know, the area you bite your lip or stick out your tongue. I then took my finger and just spread the lipstick out, smudging it around the edge of my lips. I like it because it's color that lasts a while, isn't sheer or too matt, it just looks really natural and fun.

Dealing with Tangled Pool Hair
If any of you are like me, you have a love / hate relationship with summer. I live in Texas, so things that suck about summer time here are:
- mosquitos
- humidity
- lack of rain
- hot cars that burn the bottom of your legs
- sweating
But there are so many other things that I love about summer, one of them being swimming. Swimming to me is just quintessential summer. I just think watermelon, sunblock, laughter, and that wonderful feeling of burning your feet against he pavement and then jumping into those cool chlorinated waves of water. An unfortunate side effect of swimming is what becomes of my hair. It gets kind of sticky and dry, it does weird things, and it becomes a nightmare to brush. I for one always loathed getting out of the pool and dealing with my chlorinated hair. It just becomes dull, dull, dull.
About a year and a half ago, I was perusing the counters of Nordstrom's when I came upon this little gem. Let me show you:
This product is by Frederic Fekkai and it's called Marine Summer Hair: Beachcomber leave-in conditioner. It smells so summery and good, no lie, I love love LOVE the smell of this stuff. It's my favorite of any hair care product that I own. It just smells right, you know what I mean? Anyway, it has liquid that separates, so when you are done swimming, playing in the ocean, or even showering you just:
Shake the bottle
Hold about six inches away from your head
Gently mist, paying close attention to the tangles near the tips and in the middle of your hair!
Avoid your eyes
Smell amazing
That's it. Put a brush through that hair and it will smell instantly better.
I don't think this product is necessarily the best for moisture control, so if dry hair in the summer is your problem, this won't be the solution for you. However, if you deal with tangled and dull hair, this product will for sure bring life back into those roots and bonus- it leaves you smelling amazing.
*Note: I've had some trouble finding this on the Fekkai website, so I'm not sure if it's not in their line anymore, but it's available online at several places, just search for Frederic Fekkai Beach Comber Leave-In Conditioner. The link will take you to an example on Amazon.
** I wasn't paid to endorse this product. I doubt Frederic Fekkai even knows who I am. I bought this with my own money as a college student, so don't worry about me trying to peddle a product I don't like.
- mosquitos
